The Vertical Chart is a graphical representation of the data in your timeline file. In the Vertical Chart, events are placed chronologically on both sides of a vertical bar. Designed to fit the width of one page, events are displayed in boxes (known as flags) and are optimally spaced along the vertical bar so that no event overlaps. Boxes may be resized or moved to either side of the chart, however, they may not be shuffled out of chronological order, and can not be enlarged past the page width. This ensures the best presentation when printed or shared digitally.
To create a Vertical Chart:
After entering data in the Timeline Data tab, choose one of the following options:
- In the Home tab, click the New Chart button
- Select the New Timeline Chart tab
- Click the New Timeline Chart thumbnail in the Chart List on the left of your screen.
Under Choose a chart layout, click the Vertical option.
A new Vertical Chart will automatically be displayed in its own tab, and a convenient thumbnail of the chart will appear in the Chart List.
The timeline chart can now be customized to suit your needs and preferences. See also: Customizing the Vertical Chart.
